- What are the different events for middle school track?
- WDMS offers both track and field events. The track events are the 100 and 400-meter dash (sprints), and 800 and 1600 meters (distance) The field events we offer are long jump, shot put, and discus. Students can compete in up to four events per meet.
- What events can my student-athlete participate in?
- Student-athletes can choose their own events. The coaches will provide suggestions on which event best suits each student-athlete as well.
- What is the order of events?
- We do our best to keep these consistent, however, away teams may change them. Track & field has a lot going on at the same time.
- To start, boys will be on the track running while girls are competing in the field (long jump, shot put, and discus).
- The order of the running events will be the 100-meter dash, 1600-meter run, 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, then the boys and girls will switch and go in the same order.
- The girls will then run the events while the boys do the field events.
- Lastly are the two relays, the girls 4x100 and the boys 4x100.
- Can student-athletes leave the meet once their event is done?
- We ask that, just as with other sports, all team members stay for the entirety of the meet. We do understand that circumstances may not allow that to happen all of the time. Please use your best judgment.
- What will students wear during meets?
- Student-athletes will receive track and field uniforms (shorts and racing singlet/tank). These are not to be kept and will be returned at the end of the season.
- Is there spirit wear?
- Yes, students will be provided information during the first couple weeks of practice with a short time frame for a quick turnaround of the spirit wear.
- What are the “Championship Meets”?
- These meets are for our top three performers of each event. We will notify the student-athletes that are invited to these meets towards the end of the season.
